Welcome to Sunyshore.com's page about Sunyshore. Think this stuff is boring? Think it doesn't matter?!  THINK AGAIN!!! Did you pay attention and catch all the cool little things there are to see in Sunyshore City? Well, maybe you did, but I bet you forgot it all! So read up!

Hey! Why not turn on the music? Choose a player for Sunyshore's midday or nighttime themesong!

About Sunyshore City!・ナギサシティーについて>

Sunyshore City is a coastal city - it's so coastal that it passes the coast and half of it is built overwater and on little islands. It's so coastal that in Japanese it's simply called Nagisa City - ナギサシティ. 渚 (なぎさ、nagisa) MEANS "the coast"... so it's easy to figure this thing out, right?

Well, no worries about getting around - everything is connected by walkways in the sky. The walkways are gigantic solar panels which help to power the city. The town not only features a beautiful beach, a historical lighthouse, and the Munchlax Rock, but its residents hold keys to the past of some of the region's prominant characters. Not to mention it's also the gateway to the Pokemon League, the last city to stop at before you go! Sounds great, huh? You wanna go as soon as possible? TOO BAD! If you try to enter before you've saved the region/world, a man in Valor Lakefront will chase you down before you can even get to Route 222, the only path to Sunyshore:

"Stop, stop!
Yes, you!
Sunyshore City, which is down this road, has had a major blackout!
Crews are working on restoring power, but the road's closed now."

You can enter no problem after you've beaten Team Galactic on Mount Coronet and captured/defeated Dialga/Palkia (on in Platnium, once you've finished the Torn World and captured/defeated Giratina).

People and Places of Sunyshore City!・ナギサシティー市 民と場所>

The guys inside the gate, your first impression of Sunyshore's residents.

"Sunyshore's Gym Leader has been bored lately, I hear. Apparently, there's been a lack of worthwhile challengers."

"If I had to describe Sunyshore Gym in a word, it'd be... Shockingly Electric!"

Flint, who will approach you the first time you enter the city, and explain the Volkner Problem.

"Yo! Fellow Trainer! Your Pokemon are secure inside their Poke Balls, but there's no masking that aura of serious toughness! Oops, sorry, I should introduce myself. The name's Flint! I am one of the Pokemon League's Elite Four!" (here he turns and shows off his 'fro to you). "I just had this idea. Maybe you can pull it off. It's about this town's Gym Leader. He's really lost his enthusiam lately because there've been so few good challengers worth his time. He's been so bored, he spends all his time renovating the Gym. And then the blackout happened... that sure didn't help lift his mood. You know where I'm going with this, don't you? I need you to give him a battle that's so hot, it will reignite his passion for battling. I'm counting on you, hotshot!"

Two lady shoppers having a fine day.

"This is a major port town. And...  it's the gateway to the Pokemon League."

"This city uses a lot of electricity, especially the lighthouse and the Gym. They finally decided to turn all the roads inside the city into giant solar panels.
Sunyshore is the Sunshine City (
たいようが てらす まち ), so the system works perfectly."

The folks in the Pokemon Center

"I once dreamed of becoming a Gym Leader...Though that dream never came true, I got to live with Pokemon all this time. It's been a blessed life."

(I don't have this kid's dialouge before you beat Volkner yet)
"Wow! You're awesomely cool! You have all eight Gym Badges!
Now, you have to challenge the Pokemon League!"

"Sunyshore is situated on a narrow spit of land bordered by the sea and mountains. To make up for the lack of space, the city built solar panels to use for power as well as for roads.
It's a place where nature, Pokemon, and people are as one!"

The Sunyshore Pokemart!

...which is of course, where yours truly works (um, this isn't canon information, so just ignore me) but seriously folks, the Sunyshore Pokemart sells Luxury Balls. Those are like, special! Because you haven't been able to buy them since Generation III.

The Underground Fanclub

To your left is a little house, a real great location, just a hop skip and a jump from the beach - typical that it is completely full of people who are obsessed with the Underground. Let's call them the Underground Fanclub, because there's like, tons of them inside and all they can talk about is tips for going Underground. Why not go outside and enjoy the sunshine or the beautiful view or SOMETHING? Yet one of them has this interesting little tidbit:

"The Underground Man in Eterna and Byron of Canalave City are related. Add Byron's son Roark, and you have a trio of dedicated diggers."

So what you're saying is that Roark and Byron are related to that guy who's in a million places at once in the Underground? And Byron is also best buds with Riley? Who in this game is this family NOT connected to? No really! It's some sort of conspiracy and they all want to take over all of Sinnoh's Gyms (I made that up too. Just ignore anything I say ever).

Sunyshore Market

Right above that is the Sunyshore Market. "Sunyshore Market: A Selection of the World's Seals" says the sign! And inside they let you know that "Sunyshore Market is best known for its big selection of seals." Wow... that's information that I totally couldn't have figured out from the sign! Here you can buy stickers to make your Pokeballs more gaudy and sparkling. Also, a woman inside will give you a ribbon if your Pokemon have super-high (510) effort values. So, yeah, get a ribbon, yay. Also, the Seals they sell change depending on the day of the week, so stock up!

Random Sailor near the beach, who will tell you his deep thoughts.

"Whatever the enviroment, people and Pokemon adapt to live there. That's what we all do to survive."

Jasmine

There is some girl waiting on the beach. She looks familiar though, almost like something that fans will be able to take as a hint that Nintendo is considering a remake of the Gold/Silver/Crystal games.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not the Gym Leader of this town... I'm a Gym Leader in the Johto Region... ...Er...um... It would be nice if you knew about the Johto Region... Oh, if you don't have the Gym Badge, you'll be forced to turn back. "

"...I came from very far away because I wanted to get stronger. On the way, I met all sorts of people with their Pokemon... They all looked like they were having fun. I felt happy seeing it."

Look, Jasmine of Olivine City, I never thought you WERE the Gym Leader, although we are looking for him, and this region's Gym Leaders do tend to be sitting around in random places, rather than DOING THEIR JOBS AT THEIR GYMS. Especially Fantina... can't she get her act together? Well, I guess she does in Platinum... BTW, Jasmine gives you HM07, Waterfall, after you beat Volkner, so come back to see her again. So... now we can stop rambling and move along on our journey for the Gym Leader.  I wonder who it is and where he is. PS: It's Volkner and he's in the lighthouse. Just letting you know in case you weren't paying attention. BTW, spoilers. Oh, too late.

Sunyshore Gym

It's up on the platforms, there on the left side... and don't even bother, because Flint is waiting there to inform you...

"Yo! Hiya! He hasn't come back yet. When he does, you know what you gotta do. Give him a battle that's so hot, it will reignite his passion for battling! I'm counting on you, hotshot!"

I wonder how many times he's gonna say that same line? Sure. Well, you can at least check out the sign... from which you learn that Volkner is "The Shining, Shocking Star!". How interesting.

Elderly Couple

On the right, there's two houses with a great ocean view... so naturally it's a retired old couple living inside! That's what beach towns are so great for. And boy do they have some shocking information for you! Get it... shocking information... in Sunyshore City... hahahahaha meh.

"I'd heard that Team Galactic was up to no good. But here in Sunyshore, we've never even seen any of them around."

"A long time ago, there was a boy named Cyrus who lived here. He seemed to shun others, and preferred the company of machines. He was a brilliant student I recall. I often wonder what became of him."

Julia (フミコ) and the Daily Ribbons

In the house next to them lives Julia, who is lonely as all hell and will give you ribbons, one for each day of the week (this seems to be a Sunyshore theme). Well, thanks for the random ribbons!
  • Sunday - Smile Ribbon
  • Monday - Alert Ribbon
  • Tuesday - Shock Ribbon
  • Wednesday - Downcast Ribbon
  • Thursday - Careless Ribbon
  • Friday - Relax Ribbon
  • Saturday - Snooze Ribbon
Munchlax Rock (「ポケモン岩」 ナギサ名物)

... just in case you don't see the resemblence to a Munchlax, don't worry. Why not stand around like the Sailor nearby and wonder about it?

"That giant rock... isn't it really a Pokemon?"

Sure, honey. Anyway, head down the stairs for a THUNDERSTONE! Now who to use it on, Eevee or Raichu? HMMMMM? If you're in Platium, Volkner's about to try to kick your butt using both Jolteon and Raichu, so you can make your choice then on who is the sexier Pokemon if you don't already know.

Poketch Application Guy

Rock Climb up the wall, and head into the house to get a Poketch application from a dude! Thanks dude! He'll give you one of three different applications if you show him a Pokemon with a specific nature.

Calendar (serious nature)
"Use the monthly Calendar to make a note of important dates. Touch any date to change its color. Touch it again to change it back."

Dot Artist (naïve nature)
"The Dot Artist lets you draw pictures in a mosaic style. Touching the same dot makes its color turn darker."

Roulette ( quirky nature)
"The Roulette features a wheel that can be written on. Draw numbers, items, or whatever on the wheel and give it a spin!"

Vista Lighthouse (「シルベの灯台」 シンノウを照らすシンボル), and the folks inside and out

"The Gym Leader uses too much electricity! He needs to think about the city's power needs, too!"

"I love how far away you can see with the binoculars! I'm going to go that far away with my Pokemon one day."

"The Vista Lighthouse represents safety and protection to us Sailors."

How nice! What nice people. Yet here in the lighthouse sits Volkner. And with that, your tour of the city is over. Go battle him, brave soldier!
You can read everything he's got to say continuing onto the Diamond and Pearl page! >>>
