Volkner is STILL the leader
of Sunyshore Gym in Sunyshore City, despite one of the
earliest rumors about Platinum being that he'd left Sunyshore and moved
on to the Elite Four (that had at least ONE webmaster shaking in her
slippers). Not only that, but now you can see him in THREE NEW
PLACES... including (click to skip quickly to each section) a
mega-sweet double
battle with Flint, the
uber-amazing Top Trainer
Cafe owned by Buck, and also the fact that
Volkner will visit
you in your
resort house sometimes. We can't say a whole lot about
Volkner
for sure, but now we can definitely say "dude sure gets around!".

 Changes
in Sunyshore Gym・ナギサジムの変化>
Sunyshore
Gym has not
visibly changed since its day in D/P. For a Gym Leader who apparently
uses too much electricity and is constantly rennovating, he sure was
inactive for the past two years. Oh well! Assuming all dialouge except
for what we've noted here is the same, combined with the D/P page, this
is the info we have on Sunyshore Gym in Platnium! Before you get to
Volkner, you've gotta battle a bunch of people again, with upgraded
teams:

 Volkner is again generous with
potions and his Pokemon are still very high-leveled with a wide range
of attacks... but
once you beat them you
will defeat Volkner! He will tell you again how fun the battle was and
how much he enjoyed seeing you and your Pokemon, and he will also laugh
like a crazy man. But then, once again, you will get your Beacon Badge, TM 57 Charge Beam, 6000 pokedollars, and can now use Waterfall outside of battle!
 Volkner and Flint Double Battle・デンジとオーバのダブルバトル>
Before
you can enter the brand new Battle Frontier, located in the Battle
Zone, you need to get past
Volkner and his BFF Flint. Their team is made of enough incredibly
high-level Fire and Electric types to cause some kinda craaaaazy
explosion. Proceed with caution!
オーバ： こーゆーの 燃えるやな！ ということで炎のポケモン使いオーバ様が
お前らの魂どれだけ熱く燃え盛っているか確かめさせてもらう！！
デンジ： おかしな成り行きだけどポケモンリーグを勝ち抜いたその実力見せてく
れたまえ！
Flint: This situation just cooks!
The drama and tension sizzles! Flint, the fiery master of fire Pokemon,
is going to put you to the test! Let Flint see how hot your
spirit burns!
Volkner: I don't know how I managed
to get myself into this, but... show me the skills that got you through
the Pokemon League!

Then, once you've
left the battle, you get to have some parting praise from Volkner (but
not Flint).

おい！燃え尽きてるなよ メンドウだからさ。ハッハッハ！楽しかった！オレたちのコンビネーションはいまいちだったけれど君たちは強くなったな。またい

Volkner: Hey! Don't burn out on us!
Now you're just getting in the way. Hahaha! That was a blast. Our
combination came up short, but you're also a lot tougher as well.
Promise me we'll do this again. I'll see to taking this husk home.
Then they vanish, leaving you free to go inside Battle Frontier (well,
after your Rival meets his father, runs away, and Buck tells you about
his Cafe for Trainers), and also leaving you to wonder exactly what
Volkner means by "drag this one home" (according to my Japanese
consult, the phrase is a male phrase that usually indicates someone
literally dragging someone (perhaps drunk) along by their arm or
something. I'll leave
it up to you to decide which one meaning it holds for these two).
 Volkner in Survival
Area・サバイバルアリアでのデンジ>
Once you
take care of Heatran in Stark Mountain and Team Galactic has been
arrested and taken away once and for all, you gain access to a
Restraunt located in the Survival Area. It's called "Match Place/Top
Trainer Cafe"
apparently owned by Buck, and you can once again battle Gym Leaders and
tag battle partners here! On a day when Volkner shows up...
Scenario 1:
俺のエレキブルが強い相手
をまとめている・・・ ・・・！頼む！戦ってくれ！！！
My Electivire demands tough opponents. I'm
willing to beg. Let's battle!
(いいえ) まっ
エレキブルだもんな こんなこともあるさ・・・ ・・・
(no) Well,
yeah, an Electivire is intimidating. I hear you...

ん？どうした 俺のエレキブルを！ ポケモンたちを鍛えてくれるのか

to have in their party. For me, Electivire is that Pokemon...

悔しい・・・ そんな当たり前のことがオレをもっと強くしてくれる！
Winning makes me happy, and losing leaves
me angry... That's no great revelation, but it's what makes me stronger.
 Volkner in Resort
House・リ
ゾートハウスでのデンジ>
Once you've
beaten the Pokemon League you gain access to your Resort House in
Survival Area. It's a sweet joint you can fill with highly priced
furniture, and each day someone different will visit you, some of them
unlocked by how much furniture you have. Volkner will visit you in many
different ways, and he sure does love to talk.

guy, huh? Wouldn't that be hilarious?
Volkner: ...Maybe. Don't
ruin things for others, though.
オーバ：
なあなあデンジ、 ここでポケモン勝負しようぜ！
デンジ：
……それはありえないだろう。 それだから四天王は常識しらずとか言われるんだ
オーバ：
そうなのか？
デンジ：
ああ。 少なくともオレはお前のことを常識しらずってみんなに教えている。
Flint: Say, hey, Volkner.
What do you say we battle here?
Volkner: ...Are you kidding?
That's why you Elite Four are called irresponsible.
Flint: What, we are?
Volkner: Well, at least you
are. I tell everyone you're irresponsible.

It's this place. You know how drab the League is? Don't you think the
place should be more, you know, festive? With more decorations, awards,
and things like that?
Volkner:

オレが初めてジムバッジを手に入れたときにつかったわざが１０まんボルト！ あのときのうれしさを忘れないため、オレは電気タイプにこだわりながら強さを求めている。ちなみに、 オーバは自分の名前がわざのオーバーヒートに似ているから炎タイプに
こだわっているだけだ。
When
I got my first
Gym Badge, I used the move Thunderbolt. Ever since, I've stuck with the
Electric type even as I got better. I do it because I don't want to
ever forget how happy I was when I won. Incidentally, Flint's
fascination with the Fire type is only from his name. Someone told him
that a flint is what's used to spark a fire, and that was it. (Note:
The original Japanese line is "because his name resembles the move
Overheat." Flint is called Ooba (オーバ) in Japanese, and Overheat's
Japanese name is Oobaahiito (オーバーヒート).)
